    In 2012 up until Hurricane Sandy, our Food Pantry served nearly 18,000 meals. September, 2012 was notable in that we served the largest number of clients and meals in the entire history of our pantry. If we had been able to finish out the year, we projected that we could have served between 23,000-25,000 meals, making 2012 a landmark year for our pantry. Following Hurricane Sandy, unfortunately we were unable to access the island and the work of the pantry was put on hold until all the damage from the storm could be accessed.
    The recipients of our pantry took heed to evacuate and had to be placed elsewhere. We prayed that they all found safe refuge and had been well fed in the interim. By March 3rd, 2013 all the interior repairs to the church sustained by Hurricane Sandy were finally complete. On March 11th, our Food Pantry passed inspection to order Government food once again and we were recognized by The Food Bank in Neptune as being the only pantry open on the entire barrier island. Fortunately, on March 13th our Food Pantry was again ready to serve the community. We successfully implemented a Modified Client Choice Method of food distribution. In March, 58 people were served and so far in April the total is 76. Our goal is to continue the distribution of flyers and bulletins to announce our Food Pantry is open. As we continue to recover from the storm, the Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) of the ELCA has provided financial resources to those in our congregation and in our community who applied for unmet' needs. We thank all those for the blessings shared with us in our time of need. What a remarkable story we have. There is plenty of reason for all of us to celebrate what God is doing in Lavallette and we pray that His many blessings be with us all!
