It saddens me to write this horrible review/report on the 2 elderly ladies who run Glad Tidings Church Food Pantry, in Mexia TX. This location is the most humiliating, unfriendly, discriminating, Food Pantry. This location hands out expired, unhealthy, rotted vegetables. The 2 women who run this pantry are not only ufriendly, but hateful to those of us who stand for hours in line. They will only allow 'CERTAIN' people in, to use the bathroom, drink water, or come in and sit in A/C before passing out, due to scorging hot weather. I have personally witnessed this behavior on seperate occassions. I brought it to their attention and was told 'THESE people have attitude, and we ae doing them a favor!' I pointed out, this behavior was not very Chrisitian like. I also pointed out, they are discarding cases and cases of vegetables, and bread because they ration us with 2/3 lemons, onions, and potatoes, (hundreds of pounds of potatoes are under the table wrapped in plastic and are foul smelling due to rotting in place!) They will offer 1 vegetable, wilted, or slimmy because it is already rotten. I pointed out these foods are not fit for human or animal consumption, once they reach this state. I took pictures of the loads they were discarding into the dumpster. I and was told by 1 woman, the stores send them rotten vegetables, and they have to dump. We know it might be true, of a couuple of items, but not a dipsy dumpster full of rotten food! These 2 ladies informed me, they (the Church) pays for these groceries, they demanded I leave ,and never come back. I have not been back since May of last 2018. Most of the Church Volunteers quit or were told by these 2 ladies, their help was no longer needed. Last year I witnessed where the woman that checks you in (wears oxygen mask) demanded a young Hispanic girl show her ID. She showed her ID card, as she had done in the past. The woman would not accept, and demanded to see her Passport! I approached the young girl and asked why she was crying, this is when she told me, the woman would not accept her ID card and demanded to see her passport. I offered to go in and talk to this woman for her, to find out why she was doing this. The young girl asked me not to as she was afraid they would no longer give her assistance, if I made the woman angry. ( This woman demands a picture ID each and every time, one requests assistance.) I would truly appreciate someone looking into this matter, as there are MANY people who are too afraid to say anyything for fea of losing food assistance. I am available if you wish to discuss this, further. My # 830-491-4134/elvapalermo117@gmail.com. Thank you, and hope this matter can be addressed by someone in your organization. Elva Palermo
